The camp brought together people from international organizations engaged in search and rescue, migration and displacement, “No Borders” movements, and anti-colonial struggles—alongside activists who live these battles every day. It was a powerful space to meet, to share knowledge, and to dive into workshops and discussions that carried real depth and urgency. We connected with young people from across Europe whose diversity was a true source of inspiration. They showed an acute awareness of global injustices—issues so often silenced or ignored by political systems—that continue to bring tragedy to Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Our exchanges with them opened up new horizons, creating unforgettable moments of solidarity and mutual learning.

Alongside Refugees in Libya, many other groups took part, including:

Sea-Watch, Khora Athens, Mediterranean Berlin, SOS Humanity, No Borders Medics, Seebrücke, Border Network, Network Against Migrant Detention (Italy-Albania), Alarm Phone, Sea-Eye, and Mediterranea Bruxelles.

Key Themes of the Meetings

The camp focused on urgent issues: search and rescue at sea, forced migration, displacement, resistance against imposed borders, and anti-colonial struggles. Workshops became spaces to listen, learn, and share strategies, shedding light on resistance movements around the world. Some of the pressing realities discussed included:

  1. The Refugee and Migration Crisis in North Africa The Middle East and North Africa host more than 40 million migrants and 14 million internally displaced people. Civil wars, human rights violations, and climate breakdown are at the root of this crisis. Since April 2023, over 313,000 Sudanese people have crossed into Libya fleeing war and persecution—many arriving with nothing but their children and the clothes they wore.

  2. The Case of Afghanistan Afghanistan remains under the weight of Taliban rule: women and girls stripped of their rights, opposition crushed, civil liberties violated, social and economic conditions worsening, and any form of inclusive politics erased.

  3. The Palestinian Cause Palestine was ever-present in the camp’s conversations—not just as a regional issue, but as a global struggle for justice.

A participant from the West Bank shared a vivid image of Palestine as an ancient crossroads of Africa, Asia, and Europe—a birthplace of religions, a land of history and spirit. The two-state solution was discussed as one possible path toward coexistence, though weighed down by enormous challenges.

  4. The Civil War in Sudan The fight for power in Sudan has unleashed a humanitarian catastrophe. More than 13 million people are now displaced—inside Sudan or in neighboring countries like Egypt, Chad, Libya, Ethiopia, and Uganda. Entire communities face food insecurity, genocidal violence continues in Darfur, livelihoods have collapsed, and soaring food prices are pushing millions closer to the edge.

    The Humanitarian Message

In the face of ongoing wars and crises, we cannot look away. Every child has the right to education and safety. Every person has the right to peace. And every refugee has the right to dignity and to a future.

    Conclusion

The camp showed how powerful collective spaces can be in building dialogue, solidarity, and concrete action. That’s why we call on NGOs and movements everywhere to organize such gatherings every year—because they are crucial for raising awareness and expanding the circles of resistance and solidarity.

Spaces like this build bridges of trust, strengthen bonds between activists, and spark genuine collaborations. They create the conditions for new ideas and collective strategies to take root. Moving forward in this spirit means embracing shared values of resistance, cross-border solidarity, and the struggle for a just and free future for all.
