Death threat against RiL activist: Bullet placed on a handwritten note with Arabic text and the date 1/10/2026

Ahead of October 1, Refugees in Libya warns of escalating threats against refugees and migrants in Tripoli, including explicit calls for violence and a death threat involving a bullet. Libyan authorities must investigate the threats, protect civilians and prevent peaceful demonstrations from escalating into attacks.

Beam Reports uncovered a coordinated network of 70 Facebook pages created within days of one another in May 2026, spreading anti-refugee incitement, misleading content and paid advertisements across Libya. The investigation found that the pages amassed more than two million followers, frequently published identical material within minutes, and promoted content calling for expulsions, attacks on UNHCR and mobilisation against refugees.
