Stop Crimes against Humanity in Libya
Stop EU complicity
Join us for a film screening and discussion in The Hague, in solidarity with survivors of crimes against humanity committed against people on the move in Libya - as they arrive in The Hague to attend the Confirmation of Charges hearing in the case of Khaled Mohamed Ali El Hishri at the International Criminal Court. And while legal proceedings also begin in the Dutch town of Zwolle against the Eritrean human trafficker Kidane for alleged crimes in the Libyan town of Bani Walid.
These proceedings are a milestonein the struggle for justice for survivors of Libya’s horrific migrant detention industry. Towards justice, truth, and reparations, they must only be the beginning of a broader reckoning with the crimes committed in Libya, including torture, enslavement, rape, killings, and other forms of violence.
We will screen “Escaping Libya’s Detention Industry”, a film by Forensis in collaboration with Lawyers for Justice in Libya (LFJL) followed by a discussion with David Yambio and Lam Magok as well as other members of Refugees in Libya who have survived Libya’s detention industry, in conversation with Phoebe Walton (Forensis), Mehdi Ben Youssef (LFJL) and Allison West (European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights).
Together, we will discuss both the legal proceedings and Europe’s role enabling and sustaining Libya’s detention industry through border externalization policies, Frontex cooperation, and pull- and pushback practices at sea.
