Help Karin stay alive in Libya until the Court of Justice decides his case against Frontex

Karim is a young asylum seeker from Darfur, Sudan. He is trapped in Libya, where simply being a Black refugee means living under constant threat of abduction, extortion, and arbitrary detention by armed groups. Karim has been diagnosed with diabetes and needs consistent care, medication, and safe access to food, none of which is stable or safe where he is. Since the case was filed in 2024, Karim has been forced to move shelters more than 35 times.

While he is being pushed from place to place to survive, the judges still haven’t declared that Frontex’s pull back operations are unlawful, a declaration that will help Karim escape from Libya and protect his life. Each day of delay is another day he has to stay hidden, sick, and at risk.

Any asylum seeker stranded in Libya is in danger of being arrested. But that danger becomes certainty when people are intercepted at sea with the help of Frontex, abducted and forced into detention centres where they are exposed to crimes against humanity.

Karim recently wrote to us describing what daily life looks like:

  • “I went to six doctors in six public hospitals, but the transport costs were too high, and they were uninterested in helping immigrants. Their response was simply: ‘Go and find a cure yourself.’”

  • “I also went to private clinics, but they exploited the situation. The fees were extremely high just to see a doctor.”

  • “My request is simply that I need financial support to cover some expenses at private clinics because I cannot afford treatment at government hospitals”

  • “I had to move from place to place. The militia was searching for me in the area where I used to live.”

  • “You can be arrested at any time… We haven’t been able to find protection anywhere.”

front-LEX just secured a historic win in the Hamoudi case, a major step forward that shows there is hope in standing up against Frontex. But legal progress doesn’t keep someone alive day to day.

Karim needs immediate, material support right now so he can survive long enough to see justice.

We are urgently raising €2,500 to cover:

  •  Emergency medical care for his illness

  • Safe shelter to relocate him to a more secure location

  •  Daily essentials like food, clean water, and medicine

  •  Ongoing support so he can remain safe until he can make an attempt to flee Libya.
