Abdul Rahman Kelta
Community Advocate
Abdul Rahman Kelta, is a community advocate born in 2001 in Oromo, Ethiopia, left his home in 2015 due to escalating tribal conflicts. Arriving in Libya in June 2015, he soon became a victim of human trafficking, extortion, and severe torture at the hands of traffickers Walid and Kidane.
In early 2021, he attempted to reach Europe but was captured at sea and returned to Libyan detention centers. Later that year, after enduring ongoing torture and human rights abuses, he joined a 100-day protest demanding fair treatment and better conditions for migrants. During this period, he served as a representative for the Ethiopian community in Libya.
In July 2022, Abdul Rahman was evacuated to Italy through humanitarian corridors operated by Sant’Egidio. Today, he continues to fight for justice, advocating at the ICC and working to amplify the voices of his community.
